Christmas Eve crash kills 1, injured 2 in Monterey
(BCN) — One person was killed and two were injured on Christmas Eve in a three-vehicle crash in the city of Monterey.
At approximately 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, Monterey police responded to a traffic collision involving three vehicles on state Highway 68, between Canyon Del Rey Boulevard and Ragsdale Drive.
Witnesses told police a white Dodge Nitro SUV was traveling westbound on Highway 68, just west of Ragsdale Drive. As traffic was slowing ahead, the driver of the Dodge was allegedly unable to stop his vehicle and struck a white Lexus SUV.
The Dodge continued into the eastbound lanes of Highway 68 and struck a blue Honda Accord head-on.
A passenger in the Honda, a 22-year-old woman from Berkeley, sustained major injuries and was transported to Natividad Medical Center, where she died.
The driver and another passenger in the blue Honda sustained moderate to major injuries and were transported to Natividad Medical Center.
The driver of the Dodge was transported to Natividad Medical Center for his injuries.
