Atherton home burglarized Wednesday using familiar tactic

(KRON) — Days after the Atherton Police Department responded to a home burglary on Fredrick Avenue, officers were alerted to another similar incident Wednesday on Prado Secoya.

Atherton police responded to the Prado Secoya residence on the report of a burglary that occurred while the residents were away between 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., according to authorities. Investigators learned that the suspects gained entry into the residence by smashing a master bedroom window.

Police did not share what specifically was stolen during Wednesday’s burglary. It is unknown if the recent burglaries are connected.

The suspects remain outstanding. Anyone with information, including surveillance video in the area of Prado Secoya, is asked to contact the Atherton Police Department at (650)-688-6500.

On Monday, Atherton Police Chief Steven McCulley issued a message urging residents to take precautions to protect their property.

“As the holiday season approaches, we want to remind you of an unfortunate trend we’ve seen in past years—an increase in residential burglaries during this time,” McCulley said. “It is very important to note that the MO of this burglary is the very same as the vast majority of recent and past burglaries: rear window smash in to the master bedroom, with valuables taken that were kept in the master bedroom unsecured.”

Tips offered by police to prevent residential burglaries include locking doors and windows, using outdoor lighting and being mindful of what can be seen through windows by persons outside. The most important tip, according to Atherton PD, is to “keep safes, jewelry, and other valuables hidden and out of your primary bedroom as this is the main target for the burglars.”
