Building destroyed after firefighters tackle early morning blaze at ‘car lot’
Crews attended the fire at Halliwell Mills on Bertha Street at a “car sales lot” at around 4am today, Boxing Day.
The wooden-framed building used as an office at the lot was destroyed in the incident, but crews from Bolton Central and Bolton North managed to stop it spreading any further.
Watch manager at Bolton North, Glyn McGann, said: “At 4am, three fire appliances, two from Bolton and one from Bolton North, mobilised to Halliwell Mills off Bertha Street to reports of a car sales lot being on fire.

“Upon attendance, having gained entry, it was discovered that the office of the lot was on fire.
“Crews were able to stop the spread of the fire to adjacent vehicles and successfully extinguished the fire.
“Sadly the building was destroyed by fire, it was a timber frame so probably had a rapid spread, with the windows venting it.”
He added: “It was a long smouldering fire, fire investigation said it is most likely that it was an electrical shortage in the office that caused it.
“We were in attendance for an hour and a half. Please make sure you have working fire alarms, the fire service are able to give them out free of charge.”
