Calls for arrests as protestors in tractors seen ‘blocking’ ambulance

From April 2026, inherited agricultural assets worth more than £1m – which were previously exempt -will be liable to inheritance tax (IHT) at 20% – half the normal rate.

Other allowances could allow a couple to pass on a farm worth up to £3m.

But many farmers argue that while they might be asset-rich – in terms of their land and livestock – they are cash poor and the changes will force them to sell up to pay the tax.

The tax shake-up sparked widespread protest, including an estimated 13,000 farmers flocking to Westminster last month.

Yesterday, protestors took to the streets once again but appeared to block emergency services. In a video posted on X, an ambulance with its lights flashing could be seen blocked by several tractors aligning the streets of London.

The X account BladeoftheSun posted: “The Media won’t acknowledge this video of the farmers blocking an ambulance with its blue lights on so could you could RT it so people see it?”

Users in the comments were quick to denounce the video and many drew parallels with Just Stop Oil protestors who are well known for delaying traffic.

One said: “I presume they were arrested and will face jail like the Just Stop Oil protesters.”

Another commented: “At least eco protestors are doing it for the planet, not just to feather their selfish nests.”

Someone else added: “Who’s ever in the Ambulance, hope the patient is OK. It’s amazing that people trying to protect their Kids & Grandkids get 5yrs in prison. But Billionaires who own these farms, can get away with anything. Because they don’t want to pay Tax. But the majority of us pay our Taxes.”

Another said: “Unlicensed vehicles (no license plates) on public highway (and they can’t claim they are moving between fields) for poverty millionaires, obstruction of traffic, stopping ambulances and other emergency services… lock em up like the just stop oil protesters”.

However, not everyone was critical, with some defending the farmer’s actions.

One X user said: “There is nothing in this short selective clip different to a normal emergency run on any day in London. in fact, the Tractor drivers are actually trying to make space.”

Another added: “The media never acknowledged the farmers protest the first place! Also this video proves nothing but the usual ambulance run. The tractors pulling aside giving space.”
