Couple pull off iconic ‘Dirty Dancing’ move, but their cat steals the show
A new video of an unimpressed cat has just dropped.
A clip posted to TikTok by Ashley Cordes (@ashcordes) has gone viral after capturing the moment she and her boyfriend pulled off an iconic dance stunt from Dirty Dancing—only to be photo-bombed by her ragdoll cat, Rain. Since the video was posted, it has received 6.4 million views. Cordes spoke to Newsweek about the unexpected moment and how it represents her cat’s personality perfectly.
In the video, Cordes and her partner set up for the lift, which involves one person flipping the other over their shoulder. The moment Cordes landed on top of her partner’s shoulder, her cat walked into the frame, taken aback by what she saw.
Cordes said both the video and the stunt were first takes.
“It was pure luck that Rain decided to jump in the first attempt,” she said. “I saw the trend come across my [For You Page] and asked my boyfriend if he wanted to try it. We only watched the video like two times maybe and then just went for it.”
When the couple did it successfully, they were thrilled, but they didn’t quite notice the impact of Rain’s presence.
“There was just so much going on in the moment, so when we went back and watched it, we were dying of laughter,” Cordes said. “She genuinely scared herself with her own reflection, which is a very Rain thing to do.”
Rain’s entrance was indeed so sudden and so hilarious, viewers immediately chimed in with their interpretations of her face. Some even took it personally.
“Does your cat have a problem with me?” @suitelifeofzackandkody wrote.
“Is it just me or did that cat look so offended? I’m dying of laughter,” @marczers wrote.
“I love him and his judgment,” @breezylanier wrote.
Cordes said neither she nor her boyfriend expected the video to go so viral—but in a way, she’s not surprised. Rain is a special cat.
“Rain is the sweetest most silly cat ever,” she said. “She never fails to put a smile on anyone’s face who meets her or spends time with her. I’m very happy that Rain was able to bring smiles to millions of other people’s faces through the TikTok.”
Cordes has showcased even more of her cat’s adorable videos on her TikTok page. One of them, responding to a comment asking, “Who is this diva?” shows Rain in a variety of sweet situations: in a handbag, stretched out on the floor and even playing with small ducklings.
“She truly is the sweetest and most precious cat,” Cordes said. “I’m so grateful to have her in my life—she really is my best friend.”
