Harsh Goenka’s List Of Good Billionaires In India Does Not Include Ambani Or Adani; Here’s Why

Billionaire Harsh Goenka responded to the ‘Why Indians Hate Rich?’ question whilst sharing a viral video of Zerodha’s billionaire co-founder and boss Nithin Kamath’s take. In the video, Kamath quips that while the US is a pure-bred capitalistic society, India, on the other hand, is a socialist society pretending to be capitalistic. He remarked that at the heart, “We all are socialists.” Reacting to the host’s question if this would ever change in India, Kamath remained pessimistic. He stated that until there remains “inequality in terms of wealth,” nothing would ever change in India. The video bit from YourStory’s Techsparks 2024 event went viral. Meanwhile, the chairman of the RPG Enterprises, and one of the most followed desi industrialists shared his opinion. Goenka stated that Indians love to celebrate “good billionaires.” Among his list of the “good billionaires” are Tata Group’s Ratan Tata, Wipro’s Azim Premji, and Anand Mahindra. Deliberate or not, but Reliance conglomerate’s Mukesh Ambani, and Adani empire’s Gautam Adani, who are the top richest billionaires in Asia, were conspicuously absent from Goenka’s “good billionaires” list. The industrialist further stated that while “good billionaires” are adored and emulated for their values, including philanthropy, Indians despise billionaires who flaunt their wealth and exploit corrupt systems, prioritizing personal gain over the larger good of society. Wealth isn’t the issue,” he added, “how it is used is!”
