LISTED: Man charged with Christmas Eve assault among those in court on Boxing Day
Magistrates heard a handful of cases from across the region yesterday (December 26) with courts across the country sitting.
Among those who found themselves in the dock was Nathan Tye, who was charged after an alleged attack on Christmas Eve.
Nathan Tye
Tye, of Gleneagles Road in Marske, found himself in court on charges of assaulting a man on Beechcroft Close in Lingdale, harassment, possessing a kitchen knife in a public place and causing criminal damage to a car’s tyres all on Christmas Eve.
Bail was refused and the 26-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at Teesside Crown Court on January 23 for a plea hearing.
Mark Jeffrey
Jeffrey admitted a serious of offences including theft and possession of cannabis in the run-up to Christmas. He was bailed to be sentenced next month.
The 30-year-old, of Church Street, Hartlepool could have avoided a Boxing Day in court, but was arrested on Christmas Eve after breaking bail conditions which banned him from entering Middlesbrough Town Centre on the 21st and 24th.
He admitted stealing a £100 coat from Sports Direct in Hartlepool on December 4, three bottles of Bucks Fizz from Iceland in the Cleveland Centre on December 16, and £61 worth of toys from The Entertainer in Captain Cook Square on December 19. He also pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis in Middlesbrough on December 20.
Magistrates adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and released him on conditional bail to appear back before the court on January 23, 2025.
Anthony Richardson
Sixty-two-year-old Anthony Richardson, of Holyrood Court, Middlesbrough, appeared before Magistrates in Teesside charged with alleged child sex offences.
He is accused of a total of five offences including sending explicit messages discussing child sex abuse, prosecutor James Hill told the court, and making and possessing indecent images of children between March 2023 and September 2024.
Richardson entered no plea and was remanded in custody until January 23, 2025 when he will appear before the higher court in Middlesbrough.
Nicola Masson
Masson was jailed for four-weeks by Magistrates for stealing from a shop on three occasions earlier this month.
The 43-year-old, of an unknown address in the Cleveland area, stole £8 worth of cakes and £21.75 worth of coffee from a Spar store, and clothing worth £372 from Next on December 16 and 17 in Hartlepool.
She was ordered to pay compensation for the entire amount she stole and was jailed for four weeks.
Todd Jennings
Todd Jennings found himself in court on Boxing Day facing three charges of assault and threatening to burn a man’s house down.
It is alleged that on March 14 this year in Jennings, of Greenfield Way in Thornaby, said “I will burn his house down” when speaking about another man.
The 29-year-old is also accused of assaulting two police officers by beating them on the same day.
Jennings entered no pleas against any of the charges and the case was adjourned until January 3 when he will appear again before Teesside Magistrates Court. He was given unconditional bail and told to be back in court for the next hearing.

Craig Duckling
Middlesbrough-man Duckling was bailed after denying assaulting a woman in November.
The 40-year-old of Langridge Crescent previously entered not guilty pleas against two charges of assault relating to an incident on Fremantle Crescent in the town on November 15.
Magistrates told him he would have to wear an electronic tag and not enter a certain area of Middlesbrough until he next appears before the court on March 6, 2025.
