Luis Miguel and his relationship with political power throughout the six-year terms in Mexico

The journalist Alberto Tavira assures in this episode of Talking to Warkentin that the life of Luis Miguel, who is performing in Mexico City these days, is “a kind of electrocardiogram”. Tavira tells different stories about the singer and his connection with power from the six-year term of José López Portillo to that of Enrique Peña Nieto. “I was able to record when Luis Miguel got involved with power on his own initiative or when his father, Luisito Rey, pushed him towards political power,” he explains.

Gabriela Warkentin talks with Alberto Tavira about the relationship between entertainment and politics, based on the story of an artist who at 17 years old spoke about politics and hope for Mexico when Carlos Salinas de Gortari assumed power in 1988. Tavira, author of the book Luis Miguel: under the table: The sun and its relationship with political power, also talks about the context in which Luis Miguel filmed the video of The unconditional with the support of the Air Force, among other episodes in the singer’s career.
