Shop York has been created by business support organisation York BID and Indie York, a not-for-profit organisation representing more than 200 independent York retailers.
Running through the whole of February, Shop York promises to offer a fun and engaging way for shoppers to support local shops while earning the chance to win exciting prizes, all donated by York businesses.
The Shop York campaign invites shoppers to collect a ‘Passport’ from Visit York or participating businesses. Shoppers earn one sticker for every purchase over £5 at more than 80 participating retailers.

Shop York is funded by the UK government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. The funding is distributed by City of York Council.

“Shop York is a win-win: shoppers discover fantastic local businesses, and retailers benefit from increased footfall during a quieter period of the year.”
Rebecca Layton, Chairperson for Indie York, said; “Shop York is a wonderful initiative to encourage customers into the city at a time that is usually most retailers’ quietest time of the year.
“We are thrilled that York BID have extended participation in this scheme to Indie York businesses who are not BID levy payers, to further highlight the vast range of independently owned businesses that the city has to offer.”
Shop York is open to all, and here are the instructions to take part:
- From Saturday February 1, pick up your Shop York Passport from Visit York or participating businesses. You can find them at www.shop-york.co.uk or through a sticker in the window of a participating business.
- Make a purchase of £5 or more at a participating retailer and earn one sticker on your Passport.
- Fill your Passport with stickers from five different businesses before Friday February 28 and enter the prize draw.
