Paula Badosa comes back in the first round of the Ningbo tournament | Tennis | Sports

Paula Badosa won this Monday in the first round of the hard court tournament in Ningbo (China) after coming back against the Russian tennis player Diana Schnaider (number 16 in the WTA). The Spaniard, who is in 14th place, returned to the courts after not being able to play last week in Wuhan (China) due to gastroenteritis. This was a serious setback in her attempt to score points in the classification to have a chance to play in the WTA Finals.

The Catalan tennis player fell in the first set 6-4 after losing her last serve. Although in the second set, Badosa pushed and managed to break the Russian’s serve on two occasions. With a 3-3 he managed to string three games in a row to equalize the score and force the third set. The third, however, was a ‘festival’ of service breaks. The start was complicated for the Spanish. He lost the first serve that opened the last set, but recovered it immediately, making it 1-1. When the match seemed to be on track with 1-3 on the scoreboard and with service, Schnaider once again took away the advantage of the Spanish, who reacted and made it 2-5. Finally, with his last serve, he made it 3-6 and took the victory.

Badosa managed to make up for the Russian, who had defeated her in their last duel in Bad Homburg (Germany), then on grass. In fact, this clash was the fifth of 2024 between the two, which they arrived with two victories for each. The Spaniard will face the Chinese tennis player Wang Xiyu, number 98 in the WTA, in the round of 16.
