Police name man charged with Leigh murder
Following reports of a stabbing on Siddow Common on Tuesday, December 3, a 27-year-old man, who has since been identified as Jack O’Brien, was rushed to hospital but tragically died from his injuries.
With a murder investigation launched following Jack’s death, police arrested two men in their 50s on suspicion of murder, as well as two men on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Police have now confirmed that Kevin Draper, 55, of Siddow Common, Leigh, has been charged with murder.
He has been remanded into custody to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court tomorrow (Saturday, December 7). Detectives are continuing to appeal for anyone who has information to come forward.
With floods of tributes posted on social media in memory of the 27-year-old, there have also been a number of flowers and heartbreaking tributes laid at the scene of the stabbing.
One tribute says that the 27-year-old has left them with a “thousand memories”, while another says: “Totally heartbroken, I love you more than you will ever know”.
In a statement issued via Greater Manchester Police, Jack’s family said: “Where do we start? As a family were absolutely devastated somebody has brutally taken our only son, brother, uncle and grandson.
“No mother should ever have to bury a child. We have been left with a massive hole in our hearts which will never heal.
“As a family, we will cherish every memory good and the bad. His memory will live through us all, forever our Jack and forever 27.”
