Rakesh Roshan Reveals SRK Backed Out Of Karan Arjun, Ajay Devgn Was Signed but Salman Khan Replaced Him
Rakesh Roshan’s 1995 hit, Karan Arjun, is all set to hit the big screens again. Amid the release of the film again, director Rakesh Roshan shared some interesting BTS details about the casting of the film. The filmmaker revealed that initially Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn were cast as the leads but Ajay left the movie suddenly and SRK left the project as he wanted to do Ajay’s role. Post that Aamir and Salman were cast, but SRK came back.
In an interview with Indian Express, Rakesh Roshan shared, “While Ajay can answer as to why he backed out from Karan Arjun, Shah Rukh had left the film as he wanted to play the role that Ajay was playing and vice versa. They wanted to change their respective images. But I said I was not making this film to change their images, it’s a story that required them to be what they were.”
He continued and said, “They both left the film, then I took Aamir Khan and Salman Khan in it. Later, SRK came back and said he wanted to work with me because I was the first person to sign him as an actor in King Uncle. He said, ’I couldn’t sleep at night, and even though I don’t believe in the story, I will still work with you. I have full conviction.’ Then I told Aamir that I had SRK’s dates from the next month so let me start with him, and Aamir agreed.”
Karan Arjun is now a cult classic movie and also starred Kajol and Mamta Kulkarni in the lead roles. The movie is all set to release in theaters on November 22nd.
