Sundar Pichai’s Grim Warning To Google Ahead Of Election Results Goes Viral: ‘Whomever The Voters Entrust…’
Republican candidate and formerly the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump, won a thrilling election against Democrat and Indian-Origin rival Kamala Harris. The historic election that was held on November 5, 2024, has already been polarizing the country over the ideological divide between the left and the right, each claiming the redemption of America. Since the advent of social media and instant messaging apps on smartphones, misinformation and disinformation have plagued elections worldwide, more so in the US of A. Donald Trump’s most vocal billionaire ally, Elon Musk, who bought the bird app for $44 billion to promote free speech and reinstated the likes of Trump, Kanye, Kangana Ranaut, and others, failed to curb propaganda and fake news on the platform, rather himself engaged in proliferating the same. How much of that has affected the 60th presidential election is left for history to decide; other platforms have been slightly concerned, namely Facebook and Google. Google in particular has been slandered by Elon Musk for pushing pro-Harris content and being anti-Trump, which has given the silicon valley search engine giant quite a bad rapport among the RW incels on the internet. The company’s desi boss, Sundar Pichai, hence sent an internal memo ahead of the election results that both serves as the SOP for Google’s operation before, during, and after the election results and also a grim warning of things ahead.
In the memo, Sundar Pichai mentioned that teams across Google and YouTube have been burning midnight oil amid major elections across the world, including India, France, the UK, and France. He added that the outcome of the election in the US will be a major topic of conversation, and it will have major consequences. Pichai quipped that whomever the voters entrust,
Let us remember the role we play at work, through the products we build, and as a business: to be a trusted source of information to people of every background and belief.”
The Google CEO further added that, beyond election day, Google’s role remains the same, which is to organize global information and make it universally accessible. He also emphasized how AI will help leverage the same.
