Thursday Pickorama

Blue Bloods has proven to be one of the top hit shows on television in recent years.

Picking a couple of high school blue bloods didn’t serve us as well.

We struggled through a lackluster 6-4 week due in large part to the fact that we rode with a pair of defending state champions and paid the price. Things started well enough for Xaverian out West but Springfield Central weathered the early onslaught and responded with style in knocking off the Hawks.

Give it up for Franklin and its first-year coach Todd Kiley for knocking off Duxbury for its third straight win since a season-opening loss at Central Catholic.

The other two losses came in Bay State Conference country as Wellesley rallied in the final minute to defeat Walpole in the first game under the new lights at Wellesley. The other came where Natick handled Milford with ease, stamping itself as yet another BSC contender.

Barnstable over DENNIS-YARMOUTH: Could very well be the game of the year down on the cape.

ST. MARY’S over Cathedral: Spartans step up on defense.

XAVERIAN over Central Catholic: Home cooking is just what the doctor ordered for these wounded Hawks.

NORTH READING over Triton: Hornets earn some early bragging rights in the CAL.

ANDOVER over Methuen: Golden Warriors may have just enough to get the job done.

WEYMOUTH over Milton: Love what Mike Donovan has done so far in a short period of time at Weymouth.

MASHPEE over Randolph: SSL battle of two teams who should be playing meaningful football deep into November.

Wayland over SHAWSHEEN: No truth to the rumor that the pick is based on the fact that the producer of our podcast The Rant is the son of the Wayland coach.

Reading over WOBURN: Rockets continue to show that their bounce back season is for real.

St. Sebastian’s over MILTON ACADEMY: Huge game with potential NEPSAC Bowl implications on the line.
